Hydrangea Hill in Shimomaruko Park:
A Must-See Hidden Gem in Tokyo
Hidden in Tokyo’s Ota City is Hydrangea Hill in Shimomaruko Park. This local gem has around over 50 types of hydrangeas to view and enjoy! While it is close to central Tokyo, you can take your time enjoying the view of the flowers due to the far fewer number of tourists in the area than in the well-known spots.
Hydrangeas of a Vast Variety of Colors Stretch Throughout the Hill
Hydrangeas with a wide variety of colors from blue, purple, pink, white, and more bloom across and fill up the hill. Even within each type, every hydrangea has its own unique shape and color which makes it fun to compare and spot differences among the flowers as you stroll around. On rainy days the colors become more vibrant, and you can enjoy that Japanese-style “rainy season” scenery. The flowers reflect a different scene depending on the weather, so it makes for the perfect spot to explore and take pictures.
This Scene of Flowers is Raised by Locals
This “Hydrangea Hill” is a flowerbed raised and taken care of by local volunteers for many years. Unlike other places meant to be tourist spots, this is a place filled with warmth by the locals who have supported and protected the scenery. People who visit will not only experience the beauty of Hydrangea Hill, but they can also take in the relaxing view of the residential areas as well as encounter and feel the vibe of the local community.
