①　Rokugo Shrine: In the hearts of the local community for over 950 years

Our first stop is Rokugo Shrine, just a short walk from Rokugo-dote Station.　

With a deep history spanning over 950 years, Rokugo Shrine is a place cherished by the locals.

Upon arriving at the premises, the first thing you’ll see is an elegant shinmon (the main gate of a shrine). Beyond the entrance, you'll find a sacred bridge and beautifully maintained shrine grounds, creating a peaceful atmosphere that makes you forget you're in the middle of the city. You can feel the seasons change through the trees and the scenery within the shrine puts its visitors at ease.

You can have fun taking in the scenery of Japan from long ago while you walk through and look at the tori gates and historical structures.

Japanese shrines offer visitors the chance to experience unique cultural traditions, such as purifying your hands at the temizu/chozu (purification pavilion) before worship and following the customary ritual of two bows, two claps, and one final bow.

②　Taiheiyu: Spend time with locals as you experience traditional bath culture

Next up on our list is Taiheiyu, a long-established traditional bathhouse.

Japanese bathhouses aren’t just places for you to wash up; they are fondly known by the locals as the city’s community hubs.

And that goes for Taiheiyu as well. There are many regulars who come at their usual time to wash up and spend time with others, and the bathhouse naturally fills up with people.

In the bath area is a wall painting of Mount Fuji, and you can enjoy the jacuzzi, electric baths, and the sauna.

Another Taiheiyu-only attraction is the stained-glass paintings created by the owner. Using the different sceneries of Ota during the current season as its motif, visitors can view different paintings every season.

Japanese bathhouses are a perfect way for foreign visitors to experience everyday Japanese life. In contrast to regular tourist attractions, this is the type of place where you can really spend your time just as the locals typically do.
